Motor insurance the 4th most common complaint at the #FOS.

​The ombudsman opened 36,065 new PPI cases between October and December last year.

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) received 70,908 new complaints in the final three months of 2016 with payment protection insurance (PPI) accounting for over half of the workload.

PPI accounted for 36,065 new cases taking the total for the financial year from April 2016 to December up to 121,557.

Overall across all products for the year to date to December the FOS has received 231,280 complaints which means that PPI accounted for 53% of the total.

The figures released by the Ombudsman showed that car and motorcycle insurance was the fourth most complained about sector.

New cases totalled 2,831 for the quarter and 8,203 for the year so far.

Building insurance complaints came in at 1,070 for the three months taking the April – December measure up to 3,450.

Contents insurance accounted for 369 new cases (1,089 year to date).

For commercial vehicle insurance there were 128 complaints (440 year to date) while legal expenses insurance had 157 (510 year to date) and commercial property insurance had 122 (368 year to date).
