Outline of the case.

A young gent on his first insurance policy contacted IG04 to provide an insurance policy. They agreed to cover him on the basis of having a telematics box fitted. They also requested a copy of his drivers license and a copy of the V5 registration document.
They advised that then engineer who would fit the telematics box would photograph the V5 at the same time.
It was a condition of the policy that this would be done.

The engineer who arrived took a poor quality photo, and the insurer was not happy.
They asked the client to take a photo of the V5, which he did, and this also was not as good as it could have been.

The details on the V5 could still be read, buy the insurer requested it again. Because the client failed to do this in the time period they requested they cancelled his policy, kept a £500 deposit, and charged him for cover and the cost of the telematics box. In total ,over £1000. They also put his details on the underwriting database that he has had a policy cancelled.
This mean not only did he not have the funds to insure another car as he was £1000 down, his next policy would cost more.

Motorclaimguru
was contacted, and were instructed to assist. The insurer refused to listen, and the case was taken to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS)
Their response is below.

Just because an insurer tell’s you “this is how it is, and how it is going to be” Do not accept it, take it further if you feel you are being mistreated.
Instruct Motorclaimguru and make sure you have all the appropriate information to fight your corner.
