Sponsored by ALS Solutions,

At Motorclaimguru , we often get asked for tips and advice on “how best to get the cheapest quote” , Is there a process you can go through?

I have a number of tips I can provide which greatly assist younger and new drivers in obtaining the best quotes, but everyone can use them.

Are you driving through #COVID ?

Are you still driving now? Through covid? If not use, cuvva, or by miles,  Both have no cancellation fee if you want to change insurer after using them.

https://www.cuvva.com/

https://www.bymiles.co.uk/

If you are driving through covid, the sweet spot for getting quotes is 21 days before you need it.

Go on price comparison sites now, so the quotes are locked in for a month ,then go back to them 21 days before you need it and see if any cheaper.

Put down for around 3000 miles more than you need. Your risk increases the more time you drive ( but minimal) the counter-argument is also true, in that the risk per mile decreases as the data on risk is measured as a constant on some policies which reduces when spread over more miles. If you then drive less miles than you have quoted for, you get the best of both worlds. Have a play with it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.

Put your mum and dad on your policy, only as long as they do not have points. If not your mum or dad, put someone else on who is over 25 with good driving history.

Share the risk, up to 5 people, then it increases 3 people on a policy is best.

Use a Disk lok anti theft device, Virtually impossible to get off, and dramatically reduces the risk of your car getting stolen. If you have a car with “keyless ignition” this is the first thing I would buy. https://www.disklokuk.co.uk/

Make your insurer aware you have bought and fitted one.!

Do an advanced driving course “may” take 5-10% off the premium with some insurers https://www.iamroadsmart.com/

Play with the excess, going for the highest excess does not always reduce the premium, depends on the car you insure. If you have something performance orientated, and getting a high excess DOES reduce the premium, insure this high excess separately.

Use brokers, direct insurers as well as price comparison sites.
Now you have your quotes, use a ‘cash back’ site to buy that exact policy and get a further cash discount.
Check the insurer out before getting the policy, if they are underwritten by a Danish, Gibralta, Malta insurer , be very wary, do your research! some are fantastic specialist underwriters, others are not!
The above is the Motorclaimguru’s Bible on how to get the best quotes.
