What is a ‘vehicle manufacturer’ method? By Andrew Marsh of @AutoIConsulting ezimethods.com

For collision repair some insurance companies seem to be confused about what is a vehicle manufacturer repair instruction, or ‘method’. The simple answer is the information was created by the company that engineered the vehicle, to reflect the best way to restore the vehicle after an impact. Since vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) do not collaborate with other OEMs on shared vehicle repair method access nor unified document layout, a repairer might have to access as many OEM repair method sites as the number of vehicles which arrive in their business each day.

However, there are a few service providers that will get that information for the repairer, and either host it live (Ezi-Methods for example) or send it via an email. That provides fast access to the only source of engineering information that matters – that which was written by OEM engineers for the collision repair sector.

No matter how the information is hosted, the source is from an OEM. This reduces the risk in ‘guessing’ how a repair – especially a structural repair – is to be completed.
